Job Summary
Lead and coordinate scheduled and unscheduled organizational-level maintenance on F/A-18 aircraft across multiple variants while serving as the designated Ordnance Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI). Perform, supervise, troubleshoot, inspect, repair, modify, install, remove, and operationally test aircraft mechanical and ordnance systems, including weapons release systems, bomb racks, missile launchers, and gun systems. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Aircraft Mechanic I and II personnel, ensuring maintenance actions are completed correctly, inspected thoroughly, and documented accurately in accordance with NAVAIR technical publications and explosive safety requirements. Lead maintenance teams during complex evolutions, coordinate activities with Production Control and Quality Assurance, and certify maintenance completion upon satisfactory inspection. Maintain accurate documentation, identify discrepancies, and coordinate corrective actions to support daily flight operations and mission readiness at NAS JRB Fort Worth.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of five (5) years of aircraft maintenance experience
- Significant experience supporting F/A-18 aircraft or other military tactical aircraft
- Demonstrated experience performing aircraft inspections, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, modification, and operational testing
- Extensive experience maintaining, troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing aircraft ordnance and armament systems
- Current or previous qualification as an Ordnance Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI)
- Broad knowledge of F/A-18 aircraft systems, NAVAIR maintenance procedures, technical publications, and Quality Assurance requirements
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, component replacement, and aircraft servicing
- Proficiency maintaining and repairing aircraft ordnance, armament, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, flight control, powerplant support, structural, and mechanical systems
- Working knowledge of aircraft electrical systems and electrical theory
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), maintenance manuals, and other approved technical publications
- Experience performing and certifying maintenance inspections in accordance with NAVAIR maintenance procedures and Quality Assurance standards
- Experience leading aircraft maintenance teams, coordinating complex maintenance operations, and providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior personnel
- Knowledge of explosive safety requirements, hazardous material handling procedures, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Tool Control Program (TCP), and aircraft maintenance safety standards
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance tasks while meeting production schedules and mission requirements
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strict compliance with NAVAIR maintenance procedures, technical directives, Quality Assurance standards, and explosive safety requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required installation access credentials
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, aircraft stands, and maintenance platforms
- Ability to work in confined spaces and around operating aircraft
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work overhead for extended periods
- Ability to safely handle aircraft support equipment, maintenance tools, and ordnance-related components while following explosive safety procedures
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Active Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one, if required by the contract
Desired Qualifications
- Previous U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps experience maintaining F/A-18A/B/C/D, F/A-18E/F, or EA-18G aircraft
- Previous qualification as an Ordnance Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI)
- Experience supporting Organizational (O-Level), Intermediate (I-Level), or Depot (D-Level) aircraft maintenance
- Extensive experience with F/A-18 armament systems, weapons release systems, bomb racks, ejector racks, missile launchers, launch rails, gun systems, and associated aircraft ordnance equipment
- Previous experience leading aircraft maintenance or ordnance work center teams
- Experience supporting Foreign Military Sales (FMS), Contractor Logistics Support (CLS), NAVAIR, or U.S. Department of Defense aviation maintenance contracts
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate
