Job Summary
Perform scheduled and unscheduled organizational-level maintenance on F/A-18 aircraft systems, structures, and components across multiple variants. Troubleshoot, inspect, repair, modify, and operationally test aircraft systems while diagnosing discrepancies using technical publications and engineering drawings. Lead small maintenance teams during complex evolutions and provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanics. Coordinate activities with production control, quality assurance, and government representatives to ensure mission-ready aircraft. Maintain accurate documentation, discrepancy reports, and inspection records in compliance with NAVAIR procedures and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of five (5) years of aircraft maintenance experience
- Significant experience supporting F/A-18 aircraft or other military tactical aircraft
- Demonstrated experience performing aircraft inspections, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, modification, and operational testing
- Broad knowledge of F/A-18 aircraft systems, NAVAIR maintenance procedures, and applicable technical publications
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, component replacement, and aircraft servicing
- Experience performing aircraft structural repairs, sheet metal modifications, corrosion control, and preventive maintenance
- Proficiency maintaining and repairing aircraft airframe, flight control, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, powerplant support, power train, and mechanical systems
- Working knowledge of aircraft electrical systems and electrical theory sufficient to support aircraft troubleshooting and maintenance
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), maintenance manuals, and other approved technical publications
- Experience using aircraft maintenance support equipment, aircraft test equipment, sheet metal tools, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, precision measuring instruments, and specialized aircraft maintenance equipment
- Ability to remove, install, rig, align, adjust, troubleshoot, and operationally test aircraft systems and components
- Experience leading small maintenance teams and providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior aircraft mechanics
- Strong organizational, communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance tasks while meeting production schedules and mission requirements
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strict compliance with NAVAIR maintenance procedures, Quality Assurance standards, Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Tool Control Program (TCP), environmental regulations, and OSHA safety requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required installation access credentials
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, aircraft stands, and maintenance platforms
- Ability to work in confined spaces and around operating aircraft
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work overhead for extended periods
- Ability to safely operate aircraft maintenance support equipment, diagnostic equipment, and precision measuring instruments
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Desired Qualifications
- Previous U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps experience maintaining F/A-18A/B/C/D, F/A-18E/F, or EA-18G aircraft
- Experience supporting Organizational (O-Level), Intermediate (I-Level), or Depot (D-Level) aircraft maintenance
- Previous experience serving as a work center lead, shift lead, or team lead during military aircraft maintenance operations
- Experience with aircraft structural repair, sheet metal fabrication, hydraulics, powerplant maintenance, avionics integration, or other F/A-18 aircraft system specialties
- Experience supporting Foreign Military Sales (FMS), Contractor Logistics Support (CLS), NAVAIR, or U.S. Department of Defense aviation maintenance contracts
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate
- Active Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one, if required by the contract
