Job Summary
Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structures, landing gear, and engine systems at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach. Repair, replace, and rebuild wings, fuselages, and functional components using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment. Read and interpret maintenance manuals to determine repair feasibility and methods. Perform progressive, phase, and periodic inspections while examining reciprocating and jet engines for cracks, corrosion, and foreign object damage. Replace or repair worn engine components such as carburetors, alternators, and fuel pumps. Remove, disassemble, inspect, and reassemble engines using hoists and forklifts. Adjust electrical wiring systems and perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections. Supervise aircraft jacking and towing, enter maintenance records, and verify work completion. Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all safety, quality, and procedural requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) years of actual and recent organizational-level F/A-18 A-G aircraft maintenance experience
- Must have completed Navy Aviation Structural Mechanics AM "A" School or FAA A&P License
- Must obtain Collateral Duty Inspector qualification within 30 days of promotion/hire date
- Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks is mandatory
- Must be physically able to perform all assigned duties
- Must have a valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver license (if North Carolina resident)
- Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks
- Must be able to obtain a favorable T3 Secret eligibility status
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
- US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location
- Shift work is required and detachments are possible
