Job Summary
Assist the teacher in the academic and life skills development of identified students with disabilities; assist in the preparation and organization of the classroom activities. Major duties include supporting teachers with attendance records, typing, and materials preparation; reinforcing appropriate behavior per the ARD committee and school plan; guiding individual students or groups in daily activities, including monitoring hygiene and dress; supervising small groups in community settings; contributing to a positive school climate; assisting with personal care needs as required (lifting, feeding, cleaning, hygiene); maintaining equipment and supplies; participating in drills and safety exercises; staying current professionally through professional learning opportunities; maintaining punctuality and effective time management; communicating professionally with students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers; performing additional duties as assigned. Working conditions include mental and physical demands typical for a school setting, with 183 contract days and a PARA 2 pay grade.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Educational Aide II Certification
- 15 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam
- Verifiable experience working with children (e.g., daycare, Sunday school, sports, girl/boy scouts)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well with children
- Patience, tolerance, and flexibility
- Knowledge of general office equipment
