Job Summary
Support and implement the Individualized Education Program (IEP) by reinforcing lessons, managing behavior, and assisting with personal care needs under the direction of a certified teacher. Conduct instructional activities with individual students or small groups to develop academic, motor, and developmental skills while maintaining appropriate documentation for School Health and Related Services reimbursement. Assist in preparing instructional materials, managing classroom equipment, and ensuring a safe environment during transitions, field trips, and daily routines. Maintain confidentiality and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to promote positive community relations.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency)
- Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate
- NCLB Certification
- Crisis Prevention & Intervention certified (CPI), obtain within the first 90 days
- Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
- Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and other staff members
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Proficient skills in organization, typing, file maintenance, computers, and software programs, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and graphics
- Experience working with children
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work
- Compliance with state, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
- Compliance with District policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
- Compliance with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local)
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, lifting, and carrying (may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment)
- May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others
- Occasional district wide and statewide travel
- Use a computer for prolonged periods resulting in repetitive hand motion
- Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration
- Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
- This program may require feeding, diapering, and caring of severely handicapped students
