Job Summary
Instructional and student-care duties as assigned in a Special Education setting. Assist in carrying out instructional programs, data collection, prep and use/maintenance of instructional materials and equipment, and assisting with activities and drills. Provide support with students in self-care activities (e.g., toileting) and implementing adaptive behavior protocols. Maintain compliance with policies, participate in in-services, and orient substitutes as needed. May include physical prompting and lifting for students, with frequent standing, bending, kneeling, pushing/pulling; CPI strategies may be utilized to manage disruptive students.
Required Qualifications
- College hours 48 required for Title I campus or a score of 464 on the ParaPro test
- College hours 15, high school diploma or GED (with passing score on ParaPro) for Non-Title I campus
- Valid Texas Educational Aide II certificate required once employed
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)
- Primary Purpose: Instructional and student-care duties as assigned.
- Major Duties and Responsibilities: Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
- Attend professional meetings as required.
- Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.
