Job Summary
Special Education 1:1 aide supports a classroom by assisting the teacher with instructional materials, supervising students, and helping with students’ physical needs (e.g., transferring to/from wheelchairs, lifting, feeding, personal care) while upholding district policies. Responsibilities include implementing programs for self-help and behavior management, maintaining a positive classroom environment, helping with records and reports, and assisting substitute teachers. The role requires collaboration with staff, effective communication, confidentiality, and the ability to follow supervisory direction. Candidates typically hold a high school diploma or GED, with preferred associates degree or two years of college, and may pursue paraprofessional certification. Knowledge of reading, writing, mathematics, and ability to work with children are essential, along with good judgment, tact, and teamwork.

- State Paraprofessional Certification (recommended)
- General ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to work well with children

- Good judgment in problem-solving and decision-making
- Ability to follow district policies and procedures
- Ability to accept supervisory direction and desire to improve job skills
- Demonstrated tact, courtesy and helpfulness in interactions with staff, students, parents, and visitors
- Some experience working with children preferred
