Job Summary
Aide – Special Education 1:1 assists the classroom teacher in a special education setting by providing for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. Responsibilities include assisting with self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs; preparing instructional materials and displays; supervising students inside and outside the classroom; assisting with administrative records and substitute-teacher guidance; supporting mobility and personal care needs (feeding, bathroom tasks, transfers to/from wheelchairs) and crisis intervention as needed; promoting a positive, orderly classroom environment and maintaining confidentiality; requires collaboration with staff, students, parents, and visitors and adherence to district policies. Qualifications emphasize a high school diploma or GED, possible associate’s degree or two years of higher education, and state paraprofessional certification (recommended); prior experience with children and ability to communicate effectively are preferred.
