Job Summary
Implement and progress monitor student IEPs while assisting the Special Education teacher in preparing instructional materials. Manage student behavior, including executing behavior intervention plans, and provide physical support such as transferring, lifting, and positioning students. Assist with personal care needs like feeding and hygiene, collect daily data, and maintain administrative records. Help maintain a neat learning environment, manage equipment inventory, and supervise students in the cafeteria, bus, and recreational areas. Intervene in crisis situations and physically restrain students as necessary for safety under district-approved procedures. Maintain confidentiality per FERPA regulations and participate in staff development training.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning or Paraprofessional Institute Certificate
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Ability/willingness to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to adapt to changes in routine and needs of students
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to use basic job-related equipment (computer, projector, copier, scanner, etc.)
- Ability to work with and effectively communicate with diverse groups
- Some experience working with children
