Job Summary
Implement and progress monitor student IEPs under the direction of the Special Education teacher. Assist with preparing instructional materials, maintaining a neat learning environment, and managing student behavior through research-based interventions. Provide physical and personal care, including transferring, lifting, feeding, and hygiene support. Collect daily data, maintain administrative records, and supervise students throughout the school day, including cafeteria, bus, and recreational areas. Intervene in crisis situations and physically restrain students as necessary for safety per district procedures. Establish professional relationships with parents, colleagues, and community members while maintaining FERPA confidentiality. Participate in staff development and complete required training programs.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning or Paraprofessional Institute Certificate
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Ability/willingness to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to adapt to changes in routine and needs of students
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to use basic job-related equipment (computer, projector, copier, scanner, etc.)
- Ability to work with and effectively communicate with diverse groups
- Some experience working with children
