Job Summary
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher. Responsibilities include providing direct instruction of students under supervision, conducting instructional exercises with individuals or small groups, assisting with classroom management, parent involvement activities, preparing instructional materials and displays, assisting with testing administration, maintaining orderly classroom, supervising students during the day, and communicating effectively. Requires an Associate’s degree or two years of study and a Texas educational aide certificate, plus ability to instruct reading, writing, and math and experience working with children.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning or
- Para Professional Institute Certificate
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Some experience working with children
- Provide direct instruction of students under direct supervision of teacher
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups
- Assist in classroom management
- Conduct parent involvement activities
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
- Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom
