Job Summary
Implement student IEPs, progress monitor data, and assist teachers in preparing instructional materials for reading, writing, and mathematics. Manage student behavior using research-based interventions and assist with physical needs like transferring, lifting, and personal care under teacher direction. Maintain a neat learning environment, handle equipment inventory, collect daily records, and supervise students across classrooms, cafeterias, buses, and recreational areas. Intervene in crisis situations and physically restrain students when necessary for safety per district procedures. Establish professional relationships with parents, colleagues, and community members while maintaining FERPA confidentiality. Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning or Paraprofessional Institute Certificate
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Ability/willingness to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to adapt to changes in routine and needs of students
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to use basic job-related equipment (computer, projector, copier, scanner, etc.)
- Ability to work with and effectively communicate with diverse groups
- Some experience working with children
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- Ability to perform regular heavy lifting of students
- Ability to assist students with physical needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning
- Ability to assist students with personal care needs, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene
- Ability to manage student behavior, to include implementation of behavior intervention plans and research-based behavioral interventions
- Ability to intervene in crisis situations and physically restrain students, within District approved procedures, as necessary for staff and student safety
- Ability to establish and maintain appropriate communication and professional relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and community members
- Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with FERPA regulations
