Job Summary
Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities; provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher, work with individual students or small groups; assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays; assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments; help maintain a neat and orderly classroom; supervise students throughout the school day (lunchroom, bus, playground); participate in staff development and faculty events; follow district safety protocols. Requires ability to work with children, communicate effectively, and cooperate with others; education includes high school diploma or GED, with associate degree options and recommended paraprofessional certification; prior experience with children preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate's degree or two years of study at an institution of higher learning
- State Paraprofessional Certification (recommended)
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and maintain a positive attitude in the work environment
- Ability to use good judgment in problem-solving and decision-making
- Follow district policies and procedures
- Ability to accept supervisory direction and desire to improve job skills
- Ability to demonstrate tact, courtesy and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors to the school
