Job Summary
Engineer scalable, secure, and resilient automation solutions using n8n to design hybrid patterns with Boomi, APIs, and AI agents. Build AI-enabled workflows supporting intelligent decisioning, human-in-the-loop controls, and model integrations while defining development standards, reusable templates, and security protocols. Implement CI/CD pipelines, versioning, and governance models; establish logging, monitoring, reliability guardrails, and anomaly detection to improve uptime and recovery time. Lead technical design sessions, workflow reviews, and post-incident reviews while mentoring engineers on automation design, prompt engineering, and responsible practices. Use metrics such as adoption, cycle-time reduction, and cost per workflow to guide improvement. Report to Sr Director, IT Support in a remote role at Avalara, an AI-first company processing over 54 billion customer API calls annually.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise automation, workflow engineering, integration engineering, or platform architecture
- Deep hands-on experience with n8n or Boomi, including building cross-functional automations, artificial intelligence-enabled workflows, agents, and orchestration patterns
- Experience designing application programming interface-first and event-driven architectures, including REST, webhooks, OAuth, JSON Web Tokens, application programming interface security, and secure integration of artificial intelligence services
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including artificial intelligence or machine learning services such as Amazon Bedrock or Azure OpenAI
- Applied experience using large language models, prompt engineering, artificial intelligence agents, observability, monitoring, and automation metrics to improve productivity, reliability, quality, scale, cost, or cycle time
