Job Summary
The AI Research Residency program at Maincode invites late-stage PhD students or exceptional early-career researchers to a paid 3 to 6 month research-focused residency. Residents work with the research and engineering teams, gaining dedicated GPU compute access, and pursue high-impact AI research spanning agents, safety and evaluation, training and algorithms, data, multimodal systems, and efficiency/infrastructure. Responsibilities include leading research advancing capable and trustworthy AI systems, designing and executing experiments, collaborating with researchers and engineers, and producing outputs suitable for top-tier conferences, journals, technical reports, or deployment in Matilda and future Maincode systems.
Required Qualifications
- Late-stage PhD student, recent PhD graduate, or exceptional early-career researcher.
- Strong research taste and the ability to identify important problems before they are obvious.
- Experience publishing, preprinting, or producing high-quality research in AI, machine learning, or adjacent technical fields.
- Ability to define and execute independent research under uncertainty.
- Interest in building AI systems that can reason, act, and operate reliably in complex real-world environments.
