AI&ML Engineer (Latam)

Job Summary
Senior AI/ML Engineer (Contractor) to design, implement, and ship AI-powered features that enhance how customers search, analyze, and act on data within the platform. Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Design to build proof-of-concepts, evaluate third-party AI tools (e.g., OpenAI, HuggingFace, Claude), lead architecture and integration of scalable AI systems, and maintain development discipline through clean, well-tested code. Mentors other engineers, helps define ML development practices, and participates in design reviews and technical discussions. Remote-first role targeting LATAM candidates; work with external client via Variacode staffing model.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2+ years focused on applied AI/ML development in production systems
- Deep experience with Python for building and deploying ML/AI-powered applications
- Experience building solutions with modern ML platforms and techniques such as Large Language Models (LLMs) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure and tooling for ML (e.g., AWS Bedrock, LangChain, Arize)
- Strong understanding of model evaluation, data pipelines, and API design
- Proven ability to mentor others and share knowledge constructively
- Curious, collaborative, and energized by building impactful solutions that customers love
- Familiarity with core technologies (PHP, React) is a plus
