AI Field Engineer - Microsoft Foundry
$280,000–$320,000 year
On-site · New York City, New York, United States or San Mateo, California, United States
Job Summary
AI Field Engineer for Microsoft Foundry — lead technical delivery and co-sell engagements with Microsoft, build reference architectures and end-to-end POCs, run load tests to baseline latency/throughput/cost, deploy and validate model families (inference frameworks), guide customers on model selection and fine-tuning strategies (LoRA, RFT, SFT), gather partner feedback for roadmap, and produce external technical content. Role requires hands-on production software delivery with customers, strong Python skills, Kubernetes infra familiarity, expertise in LLM inference and fine-tuning, and deep knowledge of the Azure AI stack. You will work with multi-stakeholder enterprise clients, align partner stakeholders, and drive technical outcomes across Azure Foundry, OpenAI services, and related platforms.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years in a pre-sales, partner engineering, forward-deployed, or technical consulting role.
- Demonstrated ability to build production software with customers, not just advise on it.
- Strong Python skills.
- Comfortable reading, writing, and debugging production code.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and infrastructure engineering.
- Hands-on fluency with LLM inference: latency/throughput tradeoffs, batching strategies, quantization, structured outputs, function calling.
- Experience with fine-tuning — LoRA at minimum, RFT a strong plus; understanding SFT vs. other approaches.
- Deep familiarity with the Azure AI stack: Azure Foundry, Azure OpenAI Service, Azure ML, AKS, Entra/RBAC for AI workloads.
- Exceptional communication: discovery calls, presenting to VPs, debugging latency issues with ML engineers.
