Job Summary
Lead the high school softball program by organizing and supervising the staff and implementing the head coach responsibilities. Instruct athletes in fundamental softball skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success, while modeling good sportsmanship, character development, self-discipline, and pride. Manage administrative duties including scheduling, budgeting, equipment, safety documentation, and public relations, and mentor student-athletes and staff. Oversee clinics, staff development, and compliance with state and league regulations; collaborate with the athletic director, principals, and school personnel to maintain program quality and community relations.
Required Qualifications
- Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (Major sports)
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport
- Must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions
- Reports to athletic director with objective and evaluation in conjunction with principals
- Supervises staff of high school and middle school coaches in conjunction with athletic director and principals
- Duties include: knowledge of athletic policies, scheduling, clinics, staff development, discipline, and equipment management
- Directs student managers, assistants and statisticians
- Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees
- Maintains discipline and morale
- Public relations activities with parents and media
- Ensures safety, eligibility, and proper documentation for athletes
- Mentors athletes on character traits and academic performance
- Assists in recruiting and public exposure of the sport
- BUDGETING and equipment management responsibilities
- Ensures proper safeguarding of equipment
- Oversees facility security and cleanliness
- Provides information to media about schedules and results
- Completes paperwork for injuries within 24 hours
- Prepares for tournaments and events
- All responsibilities to be carried out under athletic director/principal guidance
