Job Summary
Consult producers on fertilizer, seed, and chemical plans while managing the seed department from purchase to next-year sales. Conduct educational presentations, perform yield checks for contests, and set margins for chemicals and fertilizer. Maintain detailed computerized field reports, keep vehicles and offices operational, and ensure safety compliance by reporting accidents. Utilize precision Ag services including GIS/GPS data to deliver soil fertility recommendations and hybrid variety selections.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture with emphasis on agronomy, crop, soil, weed management, ag business, or other ag science course work
- one to two years related experience and/or training
- equivalent combinations of education and experience
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication and conform to prescribed style and format
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished, written, oral, diagramed, or scheduled forms
- Good customer service skills and customer relations skill
- Good computer skills and willingness to utilize and/or be trained to utilize new technologies
- Must have the ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds
- Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds
- Specific vision abilities including near vision, far vision, mid-range vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of soil fertility and fertilizer recommendations
- Knowledge of Precision Ag services (including GIS/GPS information)
- Knowledge of safety regulations
