Job Summary

Agriculture Assistant needed to support a variety of garden, county fair, and office projects for Cornell Cooperative Extension; responsibilities include soil-sampling procedures, garden/field tasks (weeding, watering, planting, labeling, harvesting, weighing produce), assisting with community events, creating simple interactive demonstrations for event booths, and participating in public engagement. Administrative coordination includes preparing workshop materials, organizing storage, maintaining an activity log, submitting expense/mileage reports, and assisting in program delivery. Qualities sought: interest in agriculture, basic math, ability to learn data collection and presentation, strong communication and teamwork skills, English proficiency, comfort with Windows/Microsoft Office, and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends; ability to travel to program sites; physical tasks such as lifting/moving materials; office and outdoor work environments. Position is part-time, 8 hours/week, based from Warsaw, NY, with no remote work available.

Required Qualifications

  • Recent high school graduate or entering Grade 11 or 12 in the upcoming academic year
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher (or equivalent)
  • Interest in Agriculture - agriculture, environmental science, biology, or related fields
  • Ability to interact with local farmers, agricultural professionals, and the public in a respectful, professional manner
  • Basic math proficiency
  • Ability and willingness to learn data collection and presentation techniques
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Basic knowledge of Windows-based software, including internet and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Reliable transportation to program sites across Wyoming County
  • Ability to work in office and outdoor environments; tolerate outdoor weather conditions
