Job Summary
Administer the NYCD Physical Agility Test to candidates, providing verbal debriefs and demonstrating proper form and techniques. Design and conduct individual and group fitness and wellness trainings to improve strength, endurance, mobility, injury prevention, and stress management for candidates and correction staff. Complete daily fitness progress reports, agility test stats, and administrative functions including email responses and filing. Set up gym equipment and lift up to 150 lbs while standing or walking for approximately eight hours continuously. This role supports the Applicant Instigation Unit's goal of building a thriving fitness focus to help candidates exercise resilience as a NYC Department of Correction Employee.
Required Qualifications
- Certifications in First Aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) issued by the American Red Cross or other organization having an equivalent certification program recognized by the employing agency
- A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in nutrition, exercise physiology, health and fitness, physical education or a closely related field
- 4 years of full-time paid experience in one or more of these areas
- 1 year of which must have been in teaching exercise techniques
- An Associate degree from an accredited college with a major in nutrition, exercise physiology, health and fitness, physical education or a closely related field
- 6 years of full-time paid experience in one or more of these areas
- 1 year of which must have been in teaching exercise techniques
- The ability to travel and work at various NYC Department of Correction locations
- The ability to walk and/or stand in an assigned area for approximately eight (8) hours continuously
- The ability to run and lift up to 150lbs
