Job Summary

Agile Product Owner role for NRAO M&C software products. Translate product vision into an actionable backlog, define user stories and acceptance criteria, collaborate with scientists, engineers, and operations staff to prioritize work, and ensure timely delivery of software solutions. Facilitate agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, retrospectives), manage stakeholder needs, gather and organize user feedback, and oversee development to meet timelines. Requires a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience), at least four years as a Product Owner in software development, Advanced CSPO or CSP-PO certification, and strong experience with Jira/Confluence. Must be authorized to work in the US; posting cannot sponsor H-1B visas. Location options include Charlottesville, VA; Socorro, NM; Albuquerque, NM; or Green Bank, WV with in-person work expectations. Total rewards and starting salary range provided ($79,000–$120,000). Additional competencies include understanding of software-hardware integration, distributed teams, and ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in management, computer science, astronomy or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least four years of relevant experience as a practicing Product Owner in a professional software development environment
  • Active certification as Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner (A-CSPO) and/or Certified Scrum Professional – Product Owner (CSP-PO)
  • Experience using Atlassian tools, including Jira and Confluence
  • Ability to craft a clear product vision and roadmap that aligns with long-term organizational goals
  • Ability to prioritize user stories based on value, technical dependencies, and stakeholder needs
  • Ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and balance competing demands while maintaining buy-in
  • Experience working with large, existing applications in a distributed team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with software engineers, scientists, and senior managers
