Job Summary
Supervise children throughout the afterschool program by escorting them during activities, coordinating safe pickups and dismissals, and providing direct supervision during transitions. Assist counselors with daily operations, including preparing and cleaning snack areas while adhering to food safety procedures, and maintain accurate attendance records to ensure all children are accounted for. Manage minor behavior issues using positive guidance techniques and respond appropriately to emergencies by following YMCA policies on child safety and medical situations. Build cooperative relationships with parents and staff while modeling core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age of 16
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, and colleagues
- Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for working with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Availability to work flexible hours, including afternoons and evenings, as suits the program requirements
- Certifications required within 60 days of employment: CPR, First Aid, AED, Oxygen
- Ability to complete the following within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention training; Bloodborne Pathogens and Sexual Harassment training
- Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 lbs. at a time
