Job Summary
Develop project-based lessons aligned with program goals and submit weekly lesson plans. Lead enrichment and academic lessons for groups of 10-20 students, either in-person or virtually, while providing homework assistance and skill-building. Engage students in fun projects and maintain a safe learning environment using effective classroom management strategies. Assess and communicate with parents regarding student progress through various channels. Participate in staff meetings and trainings, including virtual sessions. Manage daily program operations such as setup, snack supervision, attendance, and clean-up. Work M, T, TH, F from 2:45-6:00 p.m. and W from 1:00-6:00 p.m., with an allotted hour of prep time daily. Serve TK-5 students across multiple Alameda County sites from August through early June.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of 48 college semester units or successful completion of the Instructional Aid (IA) exam required
- Reliable transportation
- Clear TB test (within 1 year)
- FBI/DOJ background check required
- At least two years of teaching (gardening, art, recreation or other enrichment activities) or academic tutoring experience
- Experience in working with elementary age students, specifically those from diverse, multi-lingual populations
- Strong classroom management and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent oral, computer & written communication skills
- Demonstrated capacity to work as a team player
- Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
- Flexible
- Ability to listen and respond effectively
- Ability to work in a fast-paced school environment
- Comfort with facilitating teaching via in-person and virtually
- Periodic lifting up to 25 pounds is required
- Positions are from August through 2nd week in June
Desired Qualifications
- experience teaching virtually a plus
- Strong classroom management and conflict resolution skills - restorative practices a plus
- Understanding of social emotional learning, youth development and trauma- informed practices a plus
- Experience with distance learning methods and platforms (Zoom, Google Classrooms, video creation/editing etc.) preferred
- Spanish speaking preferred but not required
