Job Summary
Ensure the safety and engagement of all middle-school age participants in the Horizons after-school program by leading activities that foster academic and social growth. Follow program lesson plans thoughtfully while offering homework support, celebrating achievements, and cultivating a nurturing environment that encourages exploration and positive play. Maintain open communication with your supervisor and parents, keeping accurate classroom records to ensure compliance with YMCA policies and state regulations. Lead and participate in diverse indoor and outdoor activities, including crafts, music, and sports, while modeling inclusive behaviors for every child.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be enrolled in or have completed at least 2 semester hours of school-age coursework within 1 year of hire
- Mini-bus certified or ability to obtain required
- Must possess oral, auditory, and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with children and adults
- Must be capable of implementing an after-school site's daily administrative, program-related, and supervisory responsibilities
- Must be able to routinely perform the following moderate physical activities; climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, walk, and stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Must possess finger dexterity, be able to grasp, and perform repetitive motion
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range, or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks
- Ability to communicate clearly through speech and understanding of the English language
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children or teens
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: outdoor education, planning and organizing activities, crafts, songs/music, skits, sports, recreational games, etc
- Exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
- Flexible, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances
- Multi-lingual
