Job Summary
Develop and teach engaging, age-appropriate lessons covering academics, recreation, and arts during afterschool hours while supervising groups of 12–16 students. Maintain classroom decorum, manage daily routines including meals and transitions, and record student attendance daily. Communicate frequently with the SUN Site Manager regarding individual progress and class development. Work within school and agency policies, protect student confidentiality, and ensure a safe environment for elementary-age children. Submit a cover letter detailing experience with elementary students and preferred class types.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in teaching children and creating lesson plans
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Desire and ability to work with children and ensure an enriching, positive, safe setting
- An independent, self-motivated, creative and resourceful individual
- Excellent organization skills and interpersonal communication skills
- A cooperative manner and the ability to work as part of a team
- A willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion
- Demonstrate excitement in working with children
- Demonstrate respect and professionalism in all interactions
- Demonstrate enthusiasm about working in an inclusive environment which serves children of all backgrounds and abilities
- Experience working with groups of elementary-age children and strong behavior management
- Must be legally able to work in the United States (documentation will be required for I-9 form)
- Basic English proficiency is required (must be able to read, write and speak English)
- All employees must submit a criminal background check
- Must include experience in cover letter
- Must include two professional references in application
Desired Qualifications
- Spanish speaking skills are a plus
