Job Summary

Lead and assist in planning and implementing daily after-school programs under the direction of a Program Coordinator, providing academic, cultural, and recreational enrichment for youth in grades K-12. Maintain a 20:1 student-to-teacher ratio while actively supervising participants during activities, field trips, and events to ensure a safe, supportive environment. Develop positive relationships with students, legal guardians, and school staff to increase program visibility, while tracking attendance data and communicating student needs and progress. Prepare creative learning environments using age-appropriate methods, manage supplies and snacks, and maintain classroom and program space standards. Collaborate with School District staff, public officials, and community leaders to support continuous quality improvement, adhering to safety protocols and emergency response procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with students in grades K-12 in recreational, educational and/or community youth outreach setting
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with School District staff, public officials, private sector officials, parents, and community leaders
  • Familiarity with quality criteria for after school programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others as well as respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency situation
  • Must have obtained high school graduate or GED
  • Must have successfully passed ASAS-LA Instructional Aide exam
  • Must have an Associates Degree or higher
  • Must have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education
  • Must clear Tuberculosis screening
  • Must clear DOJ/FBI Live Scan prior to hire
  • Physical ability to lead and participate in structured activities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends if necessary
  • Willing to travel off-site meetings, trainings and events
  • Travel between After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles school sites and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required
  • Hours are based on school calendar and attendance patterns/trends - evening hours are required during the school year
  • occasional weekend hours are required

Desired Qualifications

  • Fluency in a language other than English highly desirable
