Job Summary
Lead and assist in planning and implementing daily after-school enrichment activities, including academic, cultural, and recreational programs. Actively supervise students to ensure a safe environment while maintaining a 20:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Develop positive relationships with youth, legal guardians, and school staff to increase program visibility. Prepare creative learning environments, manage supply needs, and distribute snacks according to protocols. Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding attendance, progress, and concerns. Supervise student participants on field trips and events as needed. Maintain classroom and program space upkeep, reporting facility hazards promptly. Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities. Work evening hours from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM subject to school calendar changes, with occasional weekend availability.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with students in grades K-12 in recreational, educational and/or community youth outreach setting
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with School District staff, public officials, private sector officials, parents, and community leaders
- Familiarity with quality criteria for after school programs
- Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others as well as respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency situation
- Must have obtained high school graduate or GED and have successfully passed ASAS-LA Instructional Aide exam
- Have an Associates Degree or higher
- Have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education
- Must clear Tuberculosis screening
- Must clear DOJ/FBI Live Scan prior to hire
- Physical ability to lead and participate in structured activities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Availability to work evenings and weekends if necessary
- Willing to travel off-site meetings, trainings and events
- Travel between After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles school sites and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required
- Hours are based on school calendar and attendance patterns/trends - evening hours are required during the school year
- occasional weekend hours are required
Desired Qualifications
- Fluency in a language other than English highly desirable
