Job Summary
Provide engaging, subject-specific tutoring in Math, Science, or English Language Arts to help high school students strengthen academic skills and build confidence. Create a welcoming, supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and overcome challenges through individualized instruction. Collaborate with YMCA Team Members to identify student needs, monitor progress, and celebrate academic growth while fostering meaningful relationships. This seasonal, part-time position follows the school calendar, with tutors typically working 1 to 2 days per week for approximately 4 hours on an LAUSD high school campus.
Required Qualifications
- Twenty one (21) years of age or older
- Valid California Teaching Credential
- Current, former, or retired high school teachers
- Experience working with teens in an educational, classroom, or tutoring environment
- Subject matter expertise in high school Math, Science, or English Language Arts
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to create a welcoming, supportive, and academically focused environment
- Current EMSA First Aid and Adult, Infant, and Child CPR certifications
- Ability to obtain required certifications as a condition of employment
- Completion of required health screenings and background clearances prior to working with participants
