Job Summary
After School Counselor at the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg implements curriculum within established guidelines, supervises children and activities, designs daily lesson plans, maintains program records, fosters positive rapport with youth and families, provides opportunities for youth leadership and reflection, conducts observations and evaluations, communicates with parents/caregivers, participates in family nights and staff meetings, assists with homework, maintains facilities, follows bus procedures, and performs other tasks as assigned. Requires CPR, First Aid, AED, Child Abuse Prevention onboarding, minimum age compliance, and experience with diverse populations; emphasizes planning and delivering age-appropriate activities and inclusion/ADA compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law and/or the Y
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required
- Child Abuse Prevention required as part of onboarding
- Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y
- Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred
- Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
- Previous experience with diverse populations
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
- Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
