Job Summary
Lead after-school cooking and STEAM classes for elementary students (K-4) by teaching provided lesson plans on nutrition, healthy eating, and hands-on science experiments. Introduce children to basic cutting, measuring techniques, food safety, and cultural stories while purchasing groceries for each session based on the curriculum. Manage large group dynamics in classroom settings within Skokie School District 73.5 sites, ensuring students remain engaged through energetic instruction and fun, creative recipes. Classes run Monday through Friday between 2-4pm for one hour, with a pay rate of $60-$70 per class. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess reliable transportation to travel to assigned program locations.
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
- Ability to stand and move throughout a classroom setting during program instruction.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and kneel as needed during program setup, instruction, and cleanup.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and transport program materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to load and unload program supplies from a vehicle, as applicable.
- Ability to travel to assigned program locations.
- Experience working with large group of kids (can be in school setting, summer camp etc.)
- Enthusiastic about teaching, cooking and nutrition
- Effective classroom management skills
- Energetic personality and ability to keep students engaged during the class
- Punctuality and reliability, with access to a reliable form of transportation
