Job Summary
Lead after-school cooking and STEAM classes for elementary students (K-4) by teaching provided lesson plans on nutrition, healthy eating, and hands-on science experiments. Guide students through fun recipes, introduce basic cutting and measuring techniques, and reinforce food safety and table manners. Purchase groceries for each class based on provided recipes, with reimbursement handled separately. Classes run Monday through Friday between 2-5pm, with a maximum of five one-hour sessions per week. Pay is $60 per class with a co-instructor or $80 independently, covering approximately two hours of total work including preparation and cleanup. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, possess reliable transportation, and demonstrate experience working with large groups of children.
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
- Ability to stand and move throughout a classroom setting during program instruction.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and kneel as needed during program setup, instruction, and cleanup.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and transport program materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to load and unload program supplies from a vehicle, as applicable.
- Ability to travel to assigned program locations.
- Experience working with large group of kids (can be in school setting, summer camp etc.)
- Enthusiastic about teaching, cooking and nutrition
- Effective classroom management skills
- Energetic personality and ability to keep students engaged during the class
- Punctuality and reliability, with access to a reliable form of transportation
