Job Summary
Lead after-school cooking and STEAM classes for elementary students (K-4), teaching provided lesson plans on nutrition, healthy eating, and hands-on science experiments. Guide students through fun, creative recipes and basic cutting and measuring techniques while reinforcing food safety, table manners, and cultural stories behind the food. Purchase groceries for each class based on provided recipes, utilizing reimbursement for supplies. Classes run Monday through Friday between 2-4pm at school sites within the Skokie School District 73.5, with a maximum of five one-hour sessions per week. Pay ranges from $60-$70 per class, accounting for preparation and clean-up time. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, possess reliable transportation, and demonstrate effective classroom management skills for large groups.
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire
- Ability to stand and move throughout a classroom setting during program instruction
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and kneel as needed during program setup, instruction, and cleanup
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and transport program materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to load and unload program supplies from a vehicle, as applicable
- Ability to travel to assigned program locations
- Experience working with large group of kids
- Enthusiastic about teaching, cooking and nutrition
- Effective classroom management skills
- Energetic personality and ability to keep students engaged during the class
- Punctuality and reliability, with access to a reliable form of transportation
