Job Summary
Lead after-school cooking and STEAM classes for elementary students (K-4) by teaching provided lesson plans on nutrition, healthy eating, and hands-on science experiments. Introduce kids to basic cutting, measuring, food safety, and cultural stories while encouraging them to try new recipes and cuisines. Purchase groceries for each class based on provided recipes, then prepare and execute the one-hour sessions. Classes run Monday through Friday, 2-4pm, with a maximum of five sessions per week. Pay is $60-$70 per class, covering preparation and cleanup time. This role supports iCook/iSTEAM's mission to enrich children's lives through food and education in Skokie, IL and surrounding North Chicago suburbs.
Required Qualifications
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
- Ability to stand and move throughout a classroom setting during program instruction.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and kneel as needed during program setup, instruction, and cleanup.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and transport program materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to load and unload program supplies from a vehicle, as applicable.
- Ability to travel to assigned program locations.
- Experience working with large group of kids (can be in school setting, summer camp etc.)
- Enthusiastic about teaching, cooking and nutrition
- Effective classroom management skills
- Energetic personality and ability to keep students engaged during the class
- Punctuality and reliability, with access to a reliable form of transportation
