Job Summary
Conduct interpretation and translation services for supported forces, including transcribing and translating printed and audio source material for military interrogations, intelligence collection, and operational missions. Provide analysis and reporting of foreign language documents and intercepted data to extract key information meeting military requirements. Deliver expert linguistic opinions on cultural and ethnic context, idiomatic expressions, and multiple interpretations of terms or statements. Perform document exploitation by scanning, researching, and analyzing materials to identify specific information components. Support 24/7 missions with shift work, requiring active TOP SECRET/SCI clearance, polygraph, and CI Focus Interview.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizen
- 2 years' experience in interpretation/translation
- Interagency Language Round Table (ILR) level 3 in both Target Language and English
- document exploitation skills
- in-depth geopolitical knowledge
- computer literate
- ACTIVE TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance
- pass a polygraph and a CI Focus Interview
- understand the essentials of all speech in a standard dialect
- follow accurately the essentials of conversations between educated native speakers
- understand radio broadcasts
- understand news stories similar to wire service reports
- understand oral reports
- understand some oral technical reports
- understand public addresses on non-technical subjects
- produce idiomatic translations of non-technical material using correct syntax and expression from English to the target language and vice versa
- interpret/translate using colloquial and slang words and phrases
- conduct consecutive and accurate translations, transcription, and interpretation of ongoing conversations/activities and intelligence activities to/from the target language
- accurately provide the cultural and ethnic context of translations and interpretations
- provide advice on the cultural and ethnic significance of statements, conversations, situations, documents, etc.
- accurately perform document exploitation (scan, research, and analyze foreign language documents for intelligence information and identify/extract information components meeting military information requirement list criteria)
- Working proficiency in Afrikaans
