Job Summary
Aerostat Operator 1 supports the Persistent Surveillance Systems – Tethered (PSS-T) program at an OCONUS site in Iraq. Responsibilities include hands-on operation of the aerostat ISR platform (launch, in-flight, recovery, mooring), operation and maintenance of the associated payloads and support equipment, performing PMCS, troubleshooting, removing and replacing LRUs and payloads, and quickly adapting to changing conditions under the direction of higher-classified technicians. The role requires a Secret clearance, U.S. citizenship for clearance, a valid passport and driver's license, and the ability to deploy to austere environments (including Iraq) for extended periods. The candidate should have knowledge of hardware systems, the ability to read electronic schematics, and experience in electrical, IT/networking, or mechanical maintenance as described in the qualifications; CCIE preferred for networking, and readiness to meet demanding physical requirements and six-day workweeks.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two-year Associate’s degree in a technical field (may substitute for work experience)
- Active Secret US Government Clearance (US Citizenship required to obtain Secret Clearance)
- Valid U.S. passport with at least one year remaining
- Valid U.S. driver's license
- Knowledge of hardware systems operations
- Experience in fault detection, isolation, and correction of hardware systems and components
- Ability to perform routine system maintenance and analysis (hardware configurations; changes to components; use of diagnostic tools; reading electronic schematics; repairing PCBs)
- At least one year of aerostat experience or two years in related areas (Electrical Maintenance Mechanic or equivalent MOS experience)
- Two years of hands-on experience operating or maintaining an AEROSTAT system or related field/military equivalent
- Qualified at 10 series or greater level (military or civilian)
- Experience with hydraulic/servo valves, actuators, control systems; test/diagnostic equipment; schematics
- Networking/IT experience (Cisco Network Administrator, Network+ or similar); CCIE preferred
- Mechanical maintenance experience (hydraulic systems, winch, tether handling, generators, HVAC, cranes, forklifts)
- Willingness to deploy to CENTCOM/EUCOM/AFRICOM; able to work in harsh, extreme environments
- Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs and perform climbing, bending, kneeling, and extended mobility as part of shift duties
- Medical and dental examinations required for deployment; maintain fitness requirements
- Ability to work six days per week and 10 hours per day; travel as required
