Job Summary
Perform fusion welding on aircraft and ground support equipment to qualified Welding Procedure Specifications and Engineering Drawings. Fabricate and manufacture-welded parts, including torch brazing for ground support equipment, using aluminum, magnesium, steel, and nickel alloys. Predetermine heat range, intensity, and shielding parameters while maintaining certification for flight-critical weld repairs. Design and fabricate weld holding fixtures as necessary. Inspect own welds and those of less qualified welders as a Qualified Weld Inspector. This role requires a US citizen with a welding license and experience in MIG and TIG procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have welding license
- Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols
- Must be certified on various metals and procedures/techniques prior to employment in accordance with SAE-AMS-STD-1595 Qualifications of Aircraft, Missile and Aerospace Fusion Welders
- Must be able to verify this certification
- Intense, close tolerance welding operational experience with aluminums of .0001 thicknesses a must
- Must have knowledge of the materials to select the correct filler materials and shielding gas when generating the WPS
- Must have experience with MIG and TIG welding procedures
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must be able to pass a NACI background check
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day
- Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands, working at heights with fall protection devices
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances
- Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth
- Must be able to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
Desired Qualifications
- Prefer experience from military fixed wing community (F/A-18, P-3, T-44, H-60) or civilian heavy structure background
