Job Summary
Aerospace Design Engineer II designs general aviation components and systems, creates 3D drawings in SolidWorks, develops certification programs and reports, issues and updates compliance documents, and leads certification activities with the FAA/ACO. Responsibilities include designing components and sub-assemblies, generating concepts, validating data, conducting tests, issuing change documentation, maintaining the change register, conducting design audits with the ACO, and collaborating with production to improve quality and safety. The role requires mentoring less experienced engineers, leading teams on design and certification projects, and ensuring designs meet company, industry, and regulatory standards. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering (ABET), at least 5 years in aerospace design, strong technical writing, proficiency with 3D modeling (preferably SolidWorks), and effective English communication. Preferred qualifications include experience with Part 23, interfacing with the FAA, composite design, prior general aviation OEM experience, lean manufacturing knowledge, pilot experience, and strong leadership and collaboration skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in aerospace design
- Experience with SolidWorks or 3D modeling software
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Experience with 14 CFR Part 23 and interfacing with the FAA (preferred)
- Composite design and fabrication experience (preferred)
- Previous work experience with a general aviation OEM (preferred)
- Lean Manufacturing knowledge (preferred)
- Pilot experience (preferred)
