Job Summary
Mechanical Design Engineer to own hardware from conception through production across multiple teams (Avionics, Structures & Mechanisms, Powertrain & Battery, Ground Systems) and across multiple seniority levels. Responsible for designing robust electromechanical and structural assemblies that withstand severe environments, driving hardware through the full product design process (Design, Build, Test, Repeat, Scale) and overseeing production integration. Collaborates with Software, Integration, Production, Suppliers and Test to ensure hardware functions as an integrated part of the system. Requires deep CAD fluency, GD&T, FEA, design for assembly/DFM, prototyping, and hands-on problem solving. Role supports diverse teams with emphasis on delivering high-impact, scalable hardware for global deployment. Stepwise interview process includes recruiter, technical interviews, and onsite panel. Starting cash range is $145,000–$225,000 with equity and benefits; location is South San Francisco, CA.
Required Qualifications
- 3-12+ years of full time working experience designing electromechanical and structural assemblies
- Proven track record of complex subassemblies or full systems over at least two product programs
- Demonstrated CAD fluency for system-level ownership
- Experience working with suppliers and seeking DFM feedback
- Experience working on structural components and mechanisms, identifying worst-case loads, creating quick test setups
- Demonstrated core competencies: GD&T, FEA (multi-body structural and thermal), design for assembly and field ops
- Prototyping experience and quick iterations on owned projects
- Ability to bound problems with hand calcs (beam, buckling, bolted joints)
- Knowledge of appropriate safety margins for human safety critical applications
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
- Nice to have NX as your primary CAD tool
- Aerospace or automotive-level validation experience
- Testing experience (test plans, execution, analysis)
