Aerodynamics Intern (Fall 2026)

Job Summary
Intern on Zipline's Applied Aerodynamics Team focusing on aerodynamic performance and design of Zipline drones. You will perform vehicle design analysis including aerodynamics, propulsion, and power system performance; develop both low- and high-fidelity models of subsystems; generate aerodynamic databases; plan and execute wind tunnel and flight tests; and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (controls, mechanical, production, software, and electrical engineers) to address design challenges. You will learn and apply tools ranging from basic calculations to CFD simulations and experimental analysis, and gain hands-on experience with MATLAB, Python, and CAD tools (CATIA/NX). The role is in-person at the South San Francisco or Dallas offices, with limited travel within California for testing. You should be studying in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, flight physics, or related fields and bring a strong engineering judgment.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a relevant engineering program (e.g., aerospace, aeronautical, mechanical)
- Strong coursework in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, flight physics or related fields
- Willingness to learn and apply analytical and experimental methods
- Experience with CFD tools or interest to learn (STAR-CCM+, Fluent, OpenFOAM, PowerFLOW)
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar software
- CAD experience (CATIA, NX) is a plus
- Ability to work full-time in-person at Zipline offices (South San Francisco or Dallas)
- Ability to travel domestically within California for testing (if required)
