Job Summary
As an Aerodynamics Design Engineer at Harmattan AI, you will design the next generation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) while being the technical anchor for flight physics. Responsibilities include leading aerodynamic layouts, performing multi-fidelity analyses, executing the CFD workflow, optimizing designs for performance, and generating high-fidelity aero-databases. Candidates are expected to have a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or related fields, alongside strong expertise in aerodynamics, aircraft architecture, and relevant software tools.
Required Qualifications
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field
- Strong foundation in aircraft architecture, systems integration, subsonic aerodynamics, flight mechanics, and low-Reynolds number flows
- Proven
- aerospace intuition
- the ability to look at a design and identify potential flow separation or stability issues before running a single simulation
- Experience working with structural, propulsion or GNC engineers
- Hands-on experience with CFD solvers such as OpenFOAM, ANSYS CFD Suite (Fluent/CFX), Star-CCM+
- Experience with design packages like OpenVSP, XFoil, AVL, XFLR5, FlightStream
- Proficiency in meshing software like Pointwise, HyperMesh, ICEM CFD
- Experience with CAD tools including SolidWorks and CATIA
- Proficiency in Python libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, AeroSandbox, SMT, OpenMDAO, Matplotlib, Plotly, or PyVista
Desired Qualifications
- Hands-on experience building or piloting RC aircraft or drones
- Familiarity with UAV airworthiness standards (e.g., STANAG 4671) and flying qualities (MIL-STD-1797)
