Job Summary
Provide insight on Cotton Ginning Research Unit historical and current Microgin machinery installations and laboratory infrastructure, including electrical, water, and HVAC systems. Advise on plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems while assisting with the operation of small-scale ginning machinery. Support the installation and modification of ginning equipment such as gin stands, cylinder cleaners, stick machines, extractors, lint cleaners, and bale presses. Perform maintenance on ginning equipment and facilities, adhering to lock out/tag out procedures and hearing protection requirements. Requires minimum 35 years of experience in cotton ginning or HS/GED degree. 20-hour workweek at $55/hour in Stoneville.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 35 year(s) of experience in cotton ginning operation, maintenance of ginning equipment, and facilities maintenance such as maintaining the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
- OR HS/GED Degree
- Detailed knowledge of cotton ginning
- Experience with installation, maintenance, and modifications of cotton ginning machinery to include gin stands, cylinder cleaners, stick machines, extractors, lint cleaners, and bale presses
- Thorough knowledge of the laboratory's infrastructure
- Previous work experience to understand the health and safety considerations of working in a cotton gin
- Light lifting abilities
- Mobility to climb ladders and traverse cat-walks and work platforms within research facilities
- Awareness of hearing protection requirements
- Awareness of lock out/tag out procedures before performing maintenance on equipment
