Job Summary
Provide insight on Cotton Ginning Research Unit historical and current machinery installations and assist with the operation, maintenance, and upgrading of ginning infrastructure. Operate full-scale cotton gin plants and small-scale machinery, advise on installation and modifications of equipment such as gin stands and extractors, and assist researchers in determining appropriate machine settings. Perform maintenance tasks including lock out/tag out procedures while adhering to hearing protection requirements and general safety protocols. Requires minimum of 35 years of experience in cotton ginning equipment operation and maintenance, or a HS/GED degree. This onsite role is funded by the USDA Agricultural Research Service through the Experienced Worker Program.

- Detailed knowledge of cotton ginning
- Experience with installation, maintenance, and modifications of cotton ginning machinery
- Experience with gin stands
- Experience with cylinder cleaners
- Experience with stick machines
- Experience with extractors
- Experience with lint cleaners
- Experience with bale presses
- Previous work experience to understand the health and safety considerations of working in a cotton gin
- Light lifting abilities
- Mobility to climb ladders
- Mobility to traverse cat-walks
- Mobility to work platforms within research facilities
