Job Summary

Identify, cultivate, and steward a portfolio of 100-125 major gift prospects (foundations, corporations, individuals) in the Northeast Region, conducting 12-15 personal visits monthly via online meetings and regional travel. Manage the full gift cycle from qualification through stewardship, documenting interactions and outcomes in the donor management system while developing proposals aligned with WGU's fundraising priorities. Collaborate with the Advancement team, Regional Vice President, and internal stakeholders to ensure proposals are vetted and goals are met, reporting donor activity and strategy to the Executive Director of Development. Engage prospective donors to secure gifts of $100,000 or greater, assisting them in fulfilling their passions through support for WGU students. This full-time, remote role requires 30% travel and occasional weekend work, with the candidate based in New York, Washington D.C., Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, or Pennsylvania.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area
  • Six (6) years of experience in cultivating and soliciting major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations as well as fundraising and relationship management experience
  • Experience in cultivating, closing, and stewarding six-figure gifts
  • Residence and strong philanthropic connections the Northeast Region: New York, Washington D.C., Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, or Pennsylvania
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Up to 30% travel
  • some weekend work expected
  • occasional travel of up to 30%, including required attendance at designated company summits (typically one to two per year)
  • Additional travel may include conferences, visits to company locations, and other business-related events as needed
  • Additional travel may be assigned as needed to support business requirements
  • General knowledge of Advancement programs and processes
  • General knowledge of IRS rules regarding philanthropic gifts
  • Understanding of, and adherence to, the Donor Bill of Rights
  • Ability to demonstrate mastery in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to deliver persuasive and compelling presentations to secure major gifts and donations
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and independent problem solver
