Job Summary
Advancement Communications Writer develops donor-facing materials to support fundraising, stewardship, donor engagement, and institutional advancement priorities. The Writer translates Whitehead Institute’s research and priorities into clear, compelling language for non-technical audiences, edits donor-facing materials (gift acknowledgements, proposals, stewardship reports, case statements, and one-pagers), and collaborates with advancement staff and leadership to align messaging with campaign priorities. Responsibilities include translating complex science content into accessible language, ensuring consistency with editorial standards, managing multiple writing assignments with deadlines, and contributing to fundraising campaigns and annual fund appeals. Relocation assistance is available.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, or related field
- 3–5 years of professional writing experience, preferably in advancement, nonprofit, higher education, or science communications
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively for multiple audiences
- Strong editing and storytelling skills
- Ability to translate complex or technical material into accessible language
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively
- Ability to work independently with appropriate guidance
- Proficiency with standard productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace)
