Job Summary
Prescribe for and treat gastrointestinal diseases, disorders, and injuries while performing routine physical examinations and initial patient work-ups in outpatient and inpatient settings. Order laboratory tests, x-rays, and procedures to assess patients, distinguish abnormal findings, and adjust regimens within established protocols. Collaborate with physicians to evaluate therapeutic plans, provide emergency crisis interventions, and supervise adherence to gastroenterology policies. Manage assigned patient panels, complete outpatient records and narrative summaries, and occasionally precept students, residents, and fellows. Requires US citizenship, MSN or DNP, three years of gastroenterology-specific experience, and full ANCC/AANP certification. Flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays are required at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Killeen, TX.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or doctoral degree (DNP)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience, post education/graduate and post-licensure
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner
- Certified in the specialty as a Nurse Practitioner
- NPI, BLE and DEA registration number
- Past experience and practice in FNP, ACPCNP or AGACNP with hands on knowledge and experience related to gastrointestinal specialties and patient care
- Certified in the specialty as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate
- Basic Life Support (BLS) by AHA or American Red Cross
- Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number
Desired Qualifications
- Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
