Job Summary
Advanced Practice Provider – Orthopedics (Total Joints) supports both clinic, hospital, and operating room activities alongside orthopedic surgeons. Duties include surgical-assisted procedures, hospital rounds, patient admissions and discharges, and scheduled/walk-in clinic visits. Responsibilities also cover pre-operative and post-operative care, diagnostic/therapeutic joint procedures (e.g., aspirations and injections), comprehensive documentation in the EMR, maintaining licensure and certifications, and participating in after-hours call rotations. Requires active licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in Oregon, NCCPA certification for PAs or AANC/NCC/NCCP/AANP/AMCB for NPs, BLS and ACLS, and ability to secure Collaborative Practice Agreement where applicable. Ongoing CME and board certification maintenance, and adherence to health-system policies and privacy standards are expected. The role is based in Bend, Oregon, with a minimum of 40 hours per week and at least 36 hours of patient contact time, involving collaboration within the SCHS Orthopedics & Neurosurgery service line.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of an approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner course of study and certification as appropriate to the incumbent’s license
- Unrestricted Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Oregon
- Physician Assistant requires NCCPA certification
- Nurse Practitioner requires AANC, NCC or AANP, AMCB certification
- Current BLS certification required
- Current ACLS certification required
- Ability to establish and maintain a Collaborative Practice Agreement with a Supervising Physician through OMB (for Physician Assistant)
- Unrestricted Federal DEA number registered in Oregon
- Ability to participate in Medicare/Medicaid, or other federal/state programs
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems (Epic preferred)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Prior experience in orthopedic surgery and/or trauma preferred
- Licensed/credentialed for practice in orthopedic APP scope
- Maintain CME and board certification requirements
- Must maintain active privileges at SCHS hospitals
