Job Summary
Conduct new patient evaluations, follow-up visits, and post-operative assessments in the clinic and inpatient settings. Perform inpatient rounding, hospital consultations, and occasional travel to affiliated hospitals. Assist with pre-operative evaluations, risk assessments, perioperative optimization, and discharge coordination. Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests and imaging; adjust care plans accordingly. Provide thorough patient education and serve as a patient advocate and navigator. Participate in after-hours and weekend call coverage as assigned. Prescribe medications, manage ongoing treatment, and perform minor in-office procedures within licensure scope. Support clinic operations through EMR documentation, care coordination, and quality improvement initiatives. Collaborate with billing teams to ensure appropriate coding and participate in clinical research or data collection. Mentor nursing or physician assistant students and engage in continuing education. Ensure compliance with infection prevention, HIPAA, OSHA, and Joint Commission standards.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited Nurse practitioner or Physician Assistant program
- Active state licensure
- National board certification (ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during patient care, hospital rounds, and procedures
- Frequent lifting, positioning, and assisting patients (up to 25–35 pounds regularly, occasionally up to 50 lbs.)
- Manual dexterity for performing procedures, using medical instruments, and operating clinical equipment
- Ability to bend, reach, and perform physical examinations
- Knowledge of Tennessee Oncology Advanced Practice Provider Guidelines
- Knowledge of the Advanced Practice Practitioner as outlined in the Tennessee Oncology Policy and Procedure Manual
- Advanced clinical knowledge of surgical patient care, including pre-operative, perioperative, and post-operative management across outpatient and inpatient settings
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills to manage complex patient conditions and adjust care plans appropriately
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively partner with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams while providing patient education
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, quality improvement, and patient safety standards (HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission)
- Strong organizational, documentation, and EMR skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
