Advanced Practice Provider - Inpatient SUD Consults

Job Summary

Conduct inpatient consultations for patients with substance use disorders and related comorbidities, providing timely treatment recommendations and compassionate advocacy using Motivational Interviewing principles. Collaborate closely with attending physicians, nursing staff, and case managers to develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, while assisting in smooth handoffs to outpatient clinics and community resources. Deliver cutting-edge SUD therapies with ongoing mentorship from specialty-trained addiction experts, ensuring continuity of care and reducing barriers to long-term recovery. Provide occasional cross-coverage for outpatient clinic APPs as needed to support seamless patient care. Monday through Friday, 8:30a to 5:00p CST, with flexibility required as organizational needs evolve.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed in the state of Tennessee
  • NP (FNP, AGNP, PMHNP) or PA-C (Internal, Family, Emergency, or Hospital Medicine)
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of hospital-based clinical experience
  • Comprehensive medical and/or psychiatric evaluation and management experience in substance use disorder treatment
  • Knowledge of SUD diagnoses, medications, and treatment modalities
  • Ability to confidently navigate hospital systems, workflows, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with patients and collaborate effectively with hospital staff
  • Ability to move throughout hospital units, including frequent walking and standing
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate medical equipment, perform examinations, and complete electronic documentation
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and hospital staff, both verbally and in writing
  • Capacity to occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds (such as medical supplies)
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to assess patient conditions, read medical records, and respond to clinical situations
  • Flexibility to adapt to the fast-paced, variable environment of hospital care while maintaining a patient-centered focus

Desired Qualifications

  • FNP, AGNP, or PMHNP specialization
  • Internal, Family, Emergency, or Hospital Medicine experience
  • 1–2 years of hospital-based clinical experience
