Job Summary
Conduct advanced patient care in a clinic setting by obtaining medical histories, performing physical exams, administering medications, and sutureing minor lacerations. Collaborate with physicians to manage acute and long-term medical needs, order diagnostic procedures, and synthesize data for therapeutic plans. Provide patient education on illness prevention, medication instructions, and community resources while triaging telephone calls and managing medical emergencies. Maintain patient confidentiality, review records, and perform bedside nursing shifts as required. Ensure all services comply with the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and Stormont-Vail Health protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited PA/APRN program
- Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy
- Maintain Registered Nurse competencies as designated by Federal and State organizations and as outlined in SVH policy
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Demonstrates supportive behaviors necessary for age-specific care as determined by specific department(s)
- Develops, maintains and fosters positive working relationships with customers and other staff members
- Is knowledgeable of billing and reimbursement issues related to the management of patients
- Physician Assistant (PA) - KSBHA Required or Nurse Practitioner - KSBN
- Must hold a RN license with advanced practice certification
- Additional certifications may be required for certain patient care settings or populations
- DEA registration number is required in Manhattan, KS
- Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Performs three flexible bedside nursing shifts per month
- May be designated to work at the bedside for further shifts
- Maintain bedside nursing skills
- Has prescriptive authority per Kansas Nurse Practice Act and SVH protocols
